Douglas –Memorial Hospital of Converse County’s Board of Directors voted unanimously at their July meeting to move forward with the construction of a new medical office building on Center Street in Douglas. The 22,000 square foot building will be constructed on the former high school site, just north of the Douglas Water Park, at a cost of $5.8 Million.
The hospital began exploring the feasibility of a standalone medical office building last November when they contracted with healthcare real estate solutions company, Erdman. The Erdman group carefully looked at the hospital’s current patient population, area healthcare facilities, and growth projections for Converse County and beyond. The group’s findings showed a 5.4% increase in Memorial Hospital’s primary service area population by 2016 and a 17% increase in population growth over age 65.
The Hospital Board has now entered into a design contract with Erdman, who will use best practices models from across the country to develop a Medical Office Building plan for Douglas. The hospital plans to open the new building in the fall of 2013.
